Shopify integration
Publish OverSerp articles to your Shopify blog with a custom app access token.
OverSerp publishes articles to a Shopify blog through the Admin API, using a custom app that you create in your store.
Requirements
- A Shopify store with at least one blog (Online Store → Blog posts)
- Permission to develop apps in the store (store owner or staff with app development rights)
Step 1: Create a custom app
- In Shopify admin go to Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps.
- If prompted, allow custom app development.
- Click Create an app and name it
OverSerp.
Step 2: Set the API scopes
Open Configuration → Admin API integration and enable:
read_contentwrite_content
Save.
Step 3: Install the app and copy the token
Click Install app, then reveal the Admin API access token and copy it. Shopify shows it only once.
Step 4: Find your blog ID
Go to Online Store → Blog posts → Manage blogs and open the blog you want to publish to. The number at the end of the URL is the blog ID, for example .../blogs/91234567890.
Step 5: Connect in OverSerp
- Open your site → Integrations → Shopify.
- Enter your store URL (
https://yourstore.myshopify.com), the access token and the blog ID. - Choose
Publish(visible) orDraft(hidden). - Save and run the test.
What gets published
| Shopify field | Value |
|---|---|
| Title | Article title |
| Handle | SEO slug |
| Content | HTML body with FAQ and JSON-LD |
| Excerpt | Article excerpt |
| SEO description | Meta description |
| Visibility | Visible or hidden, as configured |
Linking to products
Add your best collection and product URLs to the site's house rules, for example “Link to /collections/running-shoes when discussing shoes”. OverSerp also uses pages found in your sitemap for internal links.
Troubleshooting
“Blog ID is required” or 404: double-check the blog ID and that the token belongs to the same store.
403 / missing scope: add write_content and reinstall the app so the new scope applies.
Published URL looks wrong: links are built as /blogs/news/handle. If your blog handle isn't news, the article is still published correctly; only the stored link differs.
